The PlayStation Vita launched four years ago yesterday and, contrary to many public outcries, it is not dead yet. Following yesterday’s piece about the top roguelikes on the system, today I wanted to share a few of the many games that are currently in development.
Risk of Rain
This one is a side-scrolling action platformer with some roguelike elements. Difficulty increases the longer the player survives, leaving you with the choice of hanging around to gain experience or try to escape quick before enemies get too hard to defeat.
“Metroidvania” style action is on the way in the form of Axiom Verge. You’ll notice shades of Metroid and Contra in the above trailer. This game launched last year on PlayStation 4 and PC, to very positive reviews, and is scheduled to make the jump to the Vita.
A dungeon crawling roguelike, Darkest Dungeon features a unique system that measures the stress levels of party members. Those stress levels can either help or harm their individual performances. Darkest Dungeon is scheduled for a Q2 2016 release.
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The Vita has turned into a real showcase for indie titles, but still sees the occasional bigger release. The LEGO video games have a long history of releasing on Sony’s handheld and the new Star Wars game is no exception. Players will experience the LEGO look and humor as they play through the story of the latest movie.
Is there a different game that you’d have put on this list? Let me know in the comments below.
